Dominique Cross :: The Bouncer
Inspiration
This video game was one of the first to come out on Playstation. I think I only bought it for that fact. I was waiting until FFVII came out and needed something to play until then. This game takes only about 5 hours to beat, but it’s beauty lies in unlocking mini games each time you beat it. Um, and also the guys are hot. KOU COSPLAYERS EMAIL ME, MWAHAHA. Kingdom Hearts cosplay was on the rise, and I wanted to do something designed by the same creator (Tetsuya Nomura) that wasn’t overplayed. I describe Mr. Nomura’s designs as sporty toddlers. They are always wearing bizarre overalls and cropped zip up sweaters in the most garish colors and juvenile details. I identify with that, going on 30 and still dressing like I’m 15. Anyway, I also have the ginormous forehead that Dominique has, so I feel I resemble her a little bit!
Construction
The jacket is vinyl lined with black quilting. I decorated the jacket sleeves with the Dog Street appliques, and made the metal toggles on the neck with aluminum flashing. Our group was a joint effort with the studio I worked with at the time. I made the boots by altering snowboots I found at the thriftstore. The rounded toes are dog food scoops that I cut the handles off of, and adhered fleece and a layer of stretch pleather over. The boots and gloves are airbrushed silver. I made the hat out of fleece and airbrushed the yellow gradient onto it. I stuffed them with a pair of socks at the last minute to give them their poofy shape. XD The wig was a pain to style; I set the flip in rollers, blasted it with a hairdryer, and sprayed the heck out of it with hairspray. It sucks because it always loses its shape after wearing it with the jacket, which rubs against the wig all day. I would wear this costume more often if I didn’t have to always restyle that dang wig every time.
