Freya :: Chobits
Completed May 2003 – Best Journeyman ACen 2003
Inspiration
Chobits was a new anime, and at the time there were very few matching Chii and Freya cosplayers. I KNOW, can you imagine the day? That Chobits was a new cosplay? I’m telling you, it’s true. TRUE! *wobbles on cane*
Construction
The design was altered from the monochrome look to add contrast and a different spin. I sewed all the ruffles for the skirts (7 layers!) and the bows on the corsets/back of trains while my friend sewed the dresses and corsets. The train is retractable, so we could pull it out for pictures yet not have people tripping over them in the hallways. The ears were functional and we could pull out phone cords. They’ve since been replaced by a less bulky pair that was a gift from firefly-path.net. (Who has amazing Chobits outfits themselves!) Daguru took some cute photos front of a quaint hotel right in the heart of Chicago. GOD, that wig is crap! I thought it had eroded after years in a bag, but after looking at the old pictures, it’s always been a big piece of poop. I chucked it in a dumpster following the photoshoot. No one should wear such a gross frizzy wig. First-time wig-wearing mistake.
