Harley Quinn :: Injustice: Gods Among Us
Couldn’t resist the official Alt Harley from Justin Murray. Red is my favorite color (as witnessed over and over and over on my site); it was only a matter of time before I tackled a Harley costume. My favorite is her original TV version, but it’s been done before and done well. Also, I can buy a pretty good one online mass produced, so where’s the challenge in that? I loved the Alt Injustice design; it’s a badass Harley that’s more classic genderfuck punk than Arkham Asylum Hot Topic kinderwhore (meant as a compliment) corset femme Harley. Interesting design, btw, just not my style. I’m less feminine and more Tank Girl. Add chunky spurs and jingle bells. And a Michael Jackson jacket. Not like a doctor should be wearing any of this, ever…. who’s going to take her seriously in her day job with this floating around on the internet? (Who’s going to take *me* seriously?)
I drafted the jacket from scratch. It’s lined with pockets, for convention ease. Gotta store touch up makeup and wallets somewhere! I sewed many yards of black/grey/brown pleather straps for this costume. I would have liked to use real leather for the straps, cuffs, and jacket, but budget and time constraints made me work with what I already knew. Now I know cutting leather strips is faster than sewing tucked under pleather ones, but I didn’t have the means to shop in person for stuff, considering it would have been a big new project for me. :( I like to challenge myself with a new technique or two with every big costume I make, but given the deadline, this costume was a challenge of time. So pleather everything it was.
