Julia :: Cowboy Bebop
Inspiration
The first time I saw Cowboy Bebop was fansubbed 1999 in college. I fell in love after the opening, with its retro feel and the Yoko Kanno opening song. I was set up for love. I was with Bebop since the beginning. This soundtrack got me through my first 2 years of college. Later when I started cosplaying, I felt the need to pay homage to one of my favorite sentimental series. The first episode I ever saw was #3 – Honky Tonk Woman, where Faye was introduced – I was so floored by how every episode is basically a mini-movie. Instantly hooked. I never thought I’d make a good Faye, although her character appeals to me much more than Julia. But I guess I just wanted the constant confusion of being called by my real name at conventions.
Construction
Pretty simple – good ole Burda pattern I used for Jean Grey and pretty much every other catsuit I’ve done. HOWEVER, this is 2 pieces! It’s a bodysuit over pants. I spent hours staring at Julia’s backside (heh) trying to figure out what was going on there. How could it be a thong in back and then have nothing going on in front – WHAT. Why don’t character designers think these things through. The belt buckle is sculpt and cast out of plastic, and the leather is real leather and real snaps – kind of my intro into very, very basic leather work. Unfortunately, I forgot the watch for this photoshoot – oops! But I have it for later! (And her zipper pull, too!)
Mega thanks to the awesome group we pulled together at ACen! And also thanks to the awesome ljinto and elemental for taking time out to get some amazing photos of us. :)
