Kei :: Adam Warren’s Dirty Pair
Inspiration
I’ve been a reader of Adam Warren’s work since he did guest work for the Gen 13 Bootleg comics. I love his version of the Dirty Pair much more than the Japanese version. Blasphemy! This costume was borne out of my penchant for redheads and shiny objects. It’s always been on the backburner, but I decided with my age it was now or never… because “later” just isn’t an option – it might start to look scary.
Construction
I don’t know what to say about construction because there really wasn’t… much… to construct. It’s made out of 2 shades of stretch metallic spandex. This was my first time sewing gloves and I’m happy with the result. The wig is custom dyed so it would be vibrant but not too bright. The Grav-Pack is a bunch of cardboard, plastic folders, pleather, auto parts, and a cleverly masked tap light. After these photos were taken, I added wire to the collar so it stands up better.
In a decidedly more Yuri-esque fashion, I wear this costume at conventions only at night so as not to shock and offend the kiddies. I know, I’m a horrible Kei.
