Lina Inverse :: Slayers
Completed May 2008 – Featured in Cosmode Japan #24
Inspiration
Another red-headed costume, WUT! Throw it on the pile! No one wanted to do a Slayers group with me, so I reluctantly put this costume in the backburner of my mind for like 4 years. Then I just gave up and did it for myself, regardless of how AWESOME it still would be to have a sizeable Slayers group. I cosplay alone…. so alone…. Anyway, I went with the original TV series version because that’s what I watched and loved 11 years ago, albeit it is one of the simpler designs. Or maybe I was lazy. I don’t know. This version has always been the quintessential Lina in my mind, so that’s what called to me. Also, I like wearing my underwear over my clothes.
Construction
The pattern I used for the tunic was Newlook 6656. It was heavily altered. To give you a clue as to how altered, it’s the same pattern I used on my Chika nurse costume. My patterns get around. I made the pattern for the cape and yellow bodysuit. The armor was made the same way I made my Ritz and Berserker armor. i.e. cardboard that is paper mached, then covered in Paperclay and sanded. (Tutorial here.) It’s awesomely lightweight and sturdy, and holds up to crowded con hallways quite valiantly. I made Ginny’s armor the same way, although hers was more fun and exciting to work on. I like monster faces. Though I doubt anyone’s looking at her armor. *o* The wig is a Linda XL Fire Red from Cosplay.com.
