Mink :: Dragon Half
I bought this video on VHS when I was 16. *cough* Gosh, that’s how long I’ve loved this show. The SD (super-deformed) style of the characters was novel at the time. The humor is witty as heck. It’s hard to believe this anime is 10 years old. It was way ahead of its time!
Inspiration
Never in my LIFE did I think I would do a Mink costume. Sure, I loved the anime, but HELL NO to the underboob. Well, I wanted a challenge to make some stand-up wings and tail. And also, as I age, I realize that my timespan to wear bikinis is drawing quickly at a close. Shameful, because I spent most of my bikini-wearing years being all modest and non-care-ish. So now I try to make up for lost cosplay time.
Construction
The wings have a base of aluminum armature which hold the shape incredibly stiff. I can mold them to whatever shape I want, and can also poke congoers’ eyes out if need be. The wings are of pleather with a headliner lining. The bodysuit is dark blue spandex that I sewed wrong-side out to dull the shiny finish. The light blue was achieved by layering a light blue mesh over the dark blue spandex. The bewbs are of wonderful Wonderflex. I covered them with craft foam and blue pleather; the same pleather I used for the gauntlets. The boots also have a base of Wonderflex that I glued 2-way stretch gold vinyl to. They velcro in back over a pair of flat-heeled boots.
