“You may never wish for a movie star’s million fans, but you do want to be leading lady to one man. You want to be happy through making him happy. Haven’t you often thought that with a little of the Hollywood star’s training, you could make him the proudest man you know? You wouldn’t be a woman if you haven’t wondered just what is involved in a star’s metamorphosis!”
I don’t think improving yourself solely for your man is a popular sentiment today, but our fascination with Old Hollywood charm never dwindles. I found this intriguing 1951 glamour book in an antique store for $6. I bought it on a whim for its saccharine advice on how to groom yourself (for your man, of course!) like the starlettes of Hollywood. While much of it is laughably outdated, there are some interesting posture concepts in it that could translate into “modeling” for cosplay, which is why I am posting it here. As Ms. King states, “…there are many books I could suggest to my students that told WHAT they should do; but they needed a book to tell them HOW to do it.”
While it’s not exactly old enough to be public domain (yet), it is out of print and therefore I can’t suggest you buy this book as a way of sharing it. D: I think the usefulness and amusement it will bring you is worth putting up a few chapters.
Glorify Yourself – Facial RadianceHow to carry your head and look spritely. BONUS: includes INTENSE eye exercises!
GLORIFYattractivelegsHow to stand at flattering angles for pictures depending on your thin or thick legs.
GLORIFYsittingtechniqueA whole chapter dedicated to the difficult art of sitting down and standing up: “Look around at the chair casually as you start to sit. You mustn’t miss it!”

Hey! I just did a quick search and found it on Etsy for $10! Sounds like a steal to me! ;) I'm too lazy to scan more now, but I will definitely consider it if I am bored one afternoon, haha. Thank you for taking the time to ask, and I'm glad it was a good read for you! It is a FASCINATING resource, and worth picking up a copy if you find one!
